The operating system that's built for GNOME, with the power of Ubuntu

UGR 0.3.0 "Centaurus" is out!  Installation Instructions

Note: If you have 0.0.1 installed, you must follow special upgrade instructions to get 0.3.0

This is a free and open source operating system based on the popular Ubuntu system, but with a pure GNOME interface.  Versions of Ubuntu from 11.10 and on will not ship the classic Gnome interface, opting instead for the Unity interface that is disliked by many. This project is based almost entirely on the regular Ubuntu OS, with just several changes to the interface.

This project is early in development. Installation is currently done by adding a PPA repository to your system.  A CD .iso will come soon, after we work out some bugs.

The system includes both GNOME 3 and a fallback to a classic GNOME interface as of 0.1.0.

This project is remixed by the team at teampr0xy.net. It has not yet been approved and is not sponsored by Ubuntu, Gnome, or Canonical in any way. It is not for profit and currently has no commercial objectives.

  • UGR 0.3.0 "Centaurus" released This much anticipated release brings UGR closer to beta. It is imperative that anyone using UGR 0.0.1 or 0.0.2 upgrade immediately, as 0.0.X users may lose support in coming updates. Additionally, it is recommended that 0.1.0 and 0.2.0 users upgrade, as well. Centaurus includes code fixes and a new text-based plymouth theme. To maintain compatibility on all systems, it is also recommended that you update all packages at the same time as UGR using apt-get.

  • A New Roadmap The UGR project has really taken off. With that popularity, there are lots of people asking for the next release. Our releases have been really irregular for several reasons:Chris and JC, the two main drivers behind this project, are high school students. Their schedules are unpredictable. We had absolutely no idea what we were getting into when we started this project, and just started pulling dates and ideas out of thin air. There are lots of unexpected hang-ups and issues. Everyone is still learning as far as the programming goes.We want to deliver on software quality, and won't release an update if it doesn't workFor that reason, we are laying out a new roadmap ...
